UAE Visit Visa for Saudi Residents: What You Need to Know
If you're living in Saudi Arabia on an iqama and planning a trip to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or anywhere else in the Emirates, the good news is you've got a faster route than most. The UAE visit visa for Saudi residents is a streamlined product designed for GCC residents, and the application is mostly online. Here's how it actually works.
Quick Answer
If you hold a valid Saudi residency (iqama) with at least three months remaining, you can apply online for a UAE visit visa for Saudi residents through the ICP smart services portal, the GDRFA Dubai portal, or a UAE airline like Emirates, Etihad, flydubai, or Air Arabia. Standard tourist visas run 30 or 60 days, single or multiple entry. Processing usually takes 3-5 working days. Fees sit between AED 250 and AED 700 depending on duration and entry type. No sponsor required.
Who Qualifies
You qualify if you hold a Saudi iqama valid for at least three months from your planned entry date, and your passport has six months validity. Frankly, most rejections I see come from people trying to apply with an iqama that's about to expire. Renew first, then apply.
Your profession matters less than it used to. The old "restricted profession" lists have been quietly relaxed, though laborers and certain low-income categories may still be asked for additional documents. Domestic workers can apply, but I'd recommend going through a sponsor or licensed agent rather than the self-service portals.
Nationality doesn't matter much either. Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Filipino, Egyptian, Sudanese, Jordanian — if your iqama is valid, you're eligible. The visa is tied to your residency status in Saudi, not your passport.
One trap worth flagging: if you've previously overstayed in the UAE or had a visa cancelled with violations, the system will catch it. Clear any old fines first.
How to Apply and What It Costs
You have four practical channels:
ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security) smart services — covers entry to all emirates except Dubai. Use icp.gov.ae or the UAEICP app.
GDRFA Dubai — for entry through Dubai. Use gdrfad.gov.ae or the DubaiNow app.
UAE airlines — Emirates, Etihad, flydubai, Air Arabia all offer visa services bundled with flights. Easiest route if you're already booking a ticket.
Licensed typing centers in the UAE — if you have a relative or friend who can apply as sponsor. Less common for Saudi residents since the self-service portals work fine.
Documents you'll upload: coloured passport bio page, coloured iqama (both sides), recent passport-sized photo on white background, and sometimes a confirmed return ticket and hotel booking.
Costs (2024-2025): - 30-day single entry: ~AED 250-350 - 60-day single entry: ~AED 400-500 - 30-day multiple entry: ~AED 550-650 - 60-day multiple entry: ~AED 650-750 - Express processing adds ~AED 100-150 Fees vary slightly between ICP, GDRFA, and airline channels. [1][2]
The legal basis for these visa categories sits in Federal Decree-Law No. 29 of 2021 on Entry and Residence of Foreigners and its Executive Regulations issued in 2022, which restructured the UAE's visa system into the current entry permit framework. [3]
After You Get the Visa
Your e-visa arrives as a PDF by email. Print it. Yes, even in 2025 — I've seen travelers held at immigration because their phone died and they couldn't show the document. Print two copies.
Activation happens on entry. The 30 or 60-day clock starts the day you land, not the day the visa was issued. You have 60 days from issuance to enter; miss that window and the visa lapses with no refund.
Extensions are possible. A 30-day visit visa can typically be extended twice for 30 days each through ICP or GDRFA, at roughly AED 600 per extension. Cheaper than a visa run, and you don't need to leave the country.
Overstay fines are AED 50 per day from day one after expiry. They add up fast. If you're getting close to your expiry date and haven't planned an exit, file the extension early — not on day 29.
Common Issues and Watch-Outs
Visa on arrival doesn't apply here. Saudi residency alone doesn't get you a stamp at Dubai airport. You need a pre-approved e-visa unless you hold a passport that independently qualifies for visa-on-arrival (UK, US, EU, etc.). If your passport qualifies on its own, skip the residency-based visa — use the visa-on-arrival lane.
The "GCC resident" visa-on-arrival is different. There's a separate facility for GCC residents in eligible professional categories (managers, doctors, engineers, etc.) that allows visa-on-arrival for around AED 250. It's faster but stricter on profession. If your iqama shows a qualifying profession, this can be cheaper than pre-applying. Check the current eligible profession list on the ICP portal before counting on it. [4]
Family applications. You can include spouse and children under one application through some airline portals, but ICP and GDRFA generally want separate applications per traveler. Budget accordingly.
Multiple entry visas have a per-stay cap. A 60-day multiple entry doesn't mean you can stay 60 days continuously then come back for another 60. Each individual stay is capped, usually at 30 or 60 days, and the total visa validity is the outer limit. Read the terms on your specific visa PDF.
