Pakistan Embassy in UAE: Locations, Services, Fees

If you're a Pakistani national living, working, or just visiting the Emirates, you'll deal with the Pakistan Embassy in UAE sooner or later. Passport renewal, NICOP, attestation, power of attorney, emergency travel documents — they all run through the same handful of offices. Here's what actually matters.

Quick answer

Pakistan runs three diplomatic missions in the UAE: the Embassy of Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, the Consulate General in Dubai, and the Consulate in the Northern Emirates (currently operating from Dubai). For most consular work — passport renewal (MRP), NICOP, document attestation, and power of attorney — you book online through the Pakistan Origin Card and National Identity Card (NICOP) portal or NADRA's e-Sahulat, then walk in for biometrics. Standard MRP renewal costs around AED 165–550 depending on validity and urgency (2024 fees). Most appointments are issued within 2–4 weeks.

Embassy and consulate locations

Embassy of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi — Plot No. 1, Diplomatic Area, near the Sheraton, off Corniche Road. The chancery handles diplomatic matters and consular work for residents of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region. Phone +971 2 444 7800.

Consulate General of Pakistan, Dubai — Hor Al Anz East, near Abu Hail Metro. This is the busiest mission, covering Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. Phone +971 4 397 3600.

Pick the office that matches your Emirates ID address. Frankly, most clients get this wrong and turn up at the wrong consulate — you'll be sent back. The Dubai consulate does not accept Abu Dhabi residents for NICOP, and vice versa.

What the Pakistan embassy in UAE actually does

The core consular services are:

  • MRP (Machine Readable Passport) renewal and reissue — booked through the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports portal (dgip.gov.pk) or the embassy's appointment system.
  • NICOP / POC — issued by NADRA, with biometrics taken at the consulate's NADRA counter.
  • Attestation of documents — educational certificates, marriage and birth certificates, commercial invoices. Pakistani documents must first be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad before the UAE consulate will counter-attest.
  • Power of attorney and affidavits — drafted, signed, and stamped at the consulate. Fee is typically AED 110 per document (2024).
  • Emergency Travel Document (ETD) — for lost or expired passports when you need to fly home urgently. Usually issued within 24–48 hours if your CNIC/NICOP is in order.
  • Protector of Emigrants stamping — required for first-time workers travelling on a work visa.

The embassy does not handle UAE visa issues, labour disputes, or absconding cases directly. For those, you need a UAE-licensed lawyer — the consulate can refer but won't represent you.

Fees, timelines, and the parts people get wrong

MRP fees range from AED 165 for a 36-page 5-year passport (normal) to roughly AED 550 for a 10-year urgent. NICOP costs around AED 110 for normal processing and AED 275 for urgent. Attestation is AED 55 per document for most categories. Cash isn't accepted at most counters — bring a debit card or pay via the embassy's online portal in advance.

Timelines, honestly, depend more on Islamabad than on the consulate. NICOP urgent is genuinely 7–10 days. MRP normal can stretch to 6–8 weeks because the booklets are printed in Pakistan and shipped in batches.

Two things trip up almost everyone: first, your Emirates ID and passport name must match exactly — even a missing middle name causes a rejection. Second, if your previous passport was issued in Pakistan and you're renewing in UAE for the first time, you'll need a "Tatkal" verification, which adds 2–3 weeks.

Book the appointment before you book the flight home. Not after.

When you need a lawyer, not the embassy

The consulate will help with documents. It won't fight a labour case, recover an end-of-service gratuity, lift a travel ban, or get you out of a cheque bounce file. Those are UAE legal matters and need UAE counsel. If you're dealing with any of that, start with our employment law category or the visa and immigration category for guides on travel bans, absconding reports, and overstays.

One more thing — if you've been issued a court summons or a police case has been opened against you, do not rely on the embassy to "sort it out." They'll give you a list of lawyers and wish you luck. Get proper advice early.
