Nigeria Embassy in UAE: Address, Services, Fees 2025
If you're a Nigerian national in the Emirates needing a passport renewal, NIN enrolment, or emergency travel document, the Nigeria embassy in UAE is your only legitimate channel. Here's what you actually need to know before you show up.
Quick answer
The Nigeria embassy in UAE operates from Abu Dhabi, with a Consulate-General in Dubai handling most consumer services for Nigerians living in the northern emirates. The embassy issues passports (standard and emergency), authenticates documents, processes NIN (National Identification Number) enrolment, and provides consular assistance for deaths, detentions, and repatriation. Appointments are required for nearly everything. Fees are paid in AED or USD depending on the service, and passport processing has shifted almost entirely to the online Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) portal — you book and pay there, then attend in person for biometrics. [1][2]
Addresses and contact
Embassy of Nigeria, Abu Dhabi Plot 24, Sector W59-02, Street No. 9, Diplomatic Area, Abu Dhabi. The chancery sits in the embassies cluster off Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street. Main switchboard: +971 2 411 8400. Email: info@nigeriaembassyuae.org. [1]
Consulate-General of Nigeria, Dubai Villa No. 1, Street 19A, Community 357, Umm Suqeim 3, Dubai (near Al Manara). Most Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, and Northern Emirates residents go here for passport biometrics and document authentication. [2]

Services and 2025 fees
Passport services run through the NIS online portal at immigration.gov.ng — you complete the application, pay in USD via card, then book a biometrics slot at either mission. Fees as currently published by NIS:
- 32-page e-passport, 5-year validity (adult): USD 130
- 64-page e-passport, 10-year validity (adult): USD 230
- Minor passport (under 18), 32-page, 5-year: USD 100
- Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC): typically USD 50, issued for one-way travel to Nigeria when the passport is lost or expired. [3]
Other consular services handled in person:
- Document authentication / attestation (educational certificates, affidavits, powers of attorney): around AED 150–250 per document, paid at the mission.
- NIN enrolment: free. Bring your passport and proof of UAE residence. NIMC (National Identity Management Commission) terminals are installed at both missions. [4]
- Letter of "no consular objection" for certain UAE procedures: nominal fee, issued same-day or next-day in practice.
Honestly, the single biggest mistake I see clients make is paying a "fixer" in Deira to handle a passport renewal. You still have to show up for biometrics yourself. Save the AED 500.
Appointments, timelines, and what to bring
Book the biometrics appointment through the NIS portal after you've paid online. Slots in Dubai fill faster than Abu Dhabi — if you're flexible, Abu Dhabi sometimes has openings two weeks sooner.
Realistic processing times in 2025:
- Standard passport renewal (no issues): 4–8 weeks from biometrics to collection.
- First-time passport (adult): 6–10 weeks; the NIS headquarters vet first-time applicants more carefully.
- Emergency Travel Certificate: 1–3 working days if your documentation is clean.
- Document authentication: same-day to 3 working days.
Bring originals plus one photocopy of: your current Nigerian passport (or expired one), your UAE Emirates ID, your UAE residence visa page, and the NIS payment confirmation. For minors, add the child's birth certificate and both parents' passports. Two recent passport photos with a white background — the mission has rejected applicants for off-white backgrounds, so don't cheap out at a corner shop.
If your passport is lost, file a police report at the nearest UAE police station first. The embassy won't issue a replacement or ETC without it.
When to involve a lawyer
Most consular matters don't need legal help. But a few situations do:
If you've been detained by UAE police or are facing criminal charges, ask the police to notify the embassy under Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations — the embassy can visit you and help arrange a UAE-licensed criminal lawyer, but the embassy itself cannot represent you in UAE courts. [5]
If you're dealing with a deceased relative's repatriation, the embassy issues the no-objection certificate, but you'll need a UAE lawyer or established funeral service to handle the death certificate from the Department of Health, the body release from the hospital, and the cargo paperwork with the airline.
For labour disputes — unpaid wages, end-of-service gratuity, arbitrary dismissal — the embassy can write a supporting letter but cannot file your case. That goes to MOHRE (the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation) for private-sector workers, or directly to the relevant labour court. See our category page on employment law in the UAE for the actual filing route.
For visa overstays, absconding reports, or travel bans tied to civil debts, you need a lawyer before you walk into the embassy — the consular officer will tell you the same thing.
